Uses of Seretide 250mcg Evohaler
Seretide 250 Evohaler is used to prevent the onset of an asthma attack if it is taken before exercise or exposure to certain “triggers”. These can include house dust, pollen, pets, and cigarette smoke. This medicine helps you to relieve symptoms like wheezing, cough, and shortness of breath.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Seretide 250 Evohaler is used to open the airways in the lungs and relax the muscles of the airways, which makes it easier for air to move in and out. It relieves symptoms such as tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, wheezing and cough, and helps in carrying out daily activities more easily. It is a safe and effective medicine and usually starts working in no time and maintains its effect for a long time.
How does Seretide 250 Mcg Evohaler work?
Seretide 250 Evohaler contains two active ingredients, a corticosteroid called fluticasone propionate and a bronchodilator called salmeterol xinafoate. Corticosteroids are hormones that are constantly manufactured by the adrenal glands. Fluticasone is a man-made derivative of a natural hormone and is used to reduce inflammation in the lungs.
When we breathe in fluticasone it is absorbed into the cells of the lungs and airways. It prevents these cells from releasing chemicals that normally cause immune and allergic reactions that result in inflammation. By stopping the release of these chemicals, fluticasone reduces inflammation in the lungs that constricts the airways and makes it difficult for air to move in and out. Fluticasone used regularly helps prevent asthma attacks and shortness of breath.
Salmeterol keeps the airways open longer than short-acting beta 2 agonists such as salbutamol or terbutaline. The effect of salmeterol lasts for about 12 hours, while the effect of salbutamol or terbutaline lasts for about 3 to 5 hours. This means that salmeterol is used to relieve asthma attacks, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath rather than prevent them.
How to take Seretide 250 Mcg Evohaler?
Take your Seretide inhaler regularly every day, usually twice a day as directed by your doctor. But sometimes if asthma is well controlled then it should be reduced to once a day. Always follow the instructions given by your doctor regarding when to use your inhaler and how many inhalations you have to use each day, and do not exceed the prescribed dosage.
Do not stop using Seretide suddenly, even if you do not currently have breathing problems unless your doctor tells you to stop using it. Stopping treatment may make your breathing problems come back.
Also, it is more important to learn to use the inhaler properly, as you will not be able to get the correct dose of medicine into your lungs. Instructions are also provided with the inhaler and your doctor, nurse or pharmacist can also tell you how to use your inhaler and check that you are using it correctly.
Check the label for instructions and shake the inhaler before use. While you are breathing through your mouth, press the inhaler once to release the medicine and hold your breath for 10 seconds. Repeat this until you can breathe the recommended number of puffs. After use, rinse the mouth thoroughly with water and spit it out. Use it twice a day as per the doctor’s prescription.
What should I do if Skip a dose?
If you miss a dose of Seretide Evohaler, skip that dose and take your next dose at your usual time. Do not take two doses at once and do not stop using it if you feel better, do not stop when a healthcare provider tells you to.
See a doctor if you overuse it and if you have any unusual symptoms, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, increased heart rate, or shakiness, contact the nearest hospital emergency room immediately.
