What is Imiquad Sachet?

Actinic keratosis is a condition in which a rough and scaly, crusted patch develops on the skin, and this results from years of sun exposure. This is why it is also called solar keratosis. Chronic exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun causes it to become a very common pre-cancer which can develop into squamous cell skin cancer.
The pre-cancer lesions are not life-threatening and can be prevented from developing into full-blown cancer. This condition mostly affects older aged people. To prevent the situation from developing further, reduce sun exposure.
It is commonly found on the face, the ears, lips, forearms, back of hands, neck, and scalp. A lesion may take years to develop but it is still removed as a precaution as it can become cancerous. A patch of actinic keratosis enlarges very slowly and may even take upto years to develop.
It is also used for the treatment of other Dermatological disorders like genital warts which present as small bumps on the skin which can develop around the genital area or even around the anal area.

Mechanism of Action
Imiquimod acts on the innate and the acquired immune responses in both direct and indirect ways. In Direct action, this medicine binds to toll-like receptors (TLR) 7 and TLR 8 of macrophages, monocytes, and dendritic cells and induces apoptosis. When it acts indirectly, imiquimod induces the release of immune-modulatory cytokines.
Its effectiveness is also improved by its action on Langerhans cells and stimulates its ability to present antigens and it also enhances its migration to the draining lymph nodes where it ultimately presents the antigens to the T cells. This activates the adaptive immune response of the body.
